Fictional Short Film

Recently we have been given the task to create a 6 minute fictional film based on the relationship between two people. We have to turn in a 1 minute pilot of this film at the end of the term and the film in its entirety next term. Here is the outline for the idea that I came up with (the names are temporary):

FOREIGN STREETS
(First Outline)

Synopsis:
“Foreign Streets” is a story about Joseph a young person from another country (preferably outside the UK) who has lost his family and moves into a run down house in a rough area in England. While looking for work, he experiences a hostile environment and sees a side of England he had never heard of. Meanwhile, Paul, the local “big man” on the block has been noticing the young man and has been second-guessing his life in trouble due to recent losses of his own. One night Joseph hears some noises in the alley behind his house and finds Paul stabbed and takes him into his house, saving him from a rival gang. After this they become friends and the young immigrant convinces the local hoodlum to leave Nottingham and follow his dream of leaving his gang and becoming a scuba diving instructor in the Bahamas.

Who:
Joseph (18)
Paul (25)
Johnnie (16)
Margaret (60)

Where: Nottingham

How:
- Quick momentum (Eight 30s scenes with quick shots and one 1min45s scene)
- Use of flashbacks
- Themeatic and contrastic music
- Building a relationship through parallels between two opposite characters

Why:
I want to make this film to compare and contrast two different cultures. At the same time, I want to show that people from different cultures are often the same. This belief stems from living abroad and being an international student in Nottingham.
