"Elements of the Past" Visualisation

Here is the visualisation I created using FrameForge for the "Elements of the Past" music video:

The pretense of the video is that Guiste walks into a studio and begins to tell a story with his song. As he is walking he sees various characters that portray the urban, gritty side of Nottingham. These characters are seen from youngest to oldest, ending with a homeless "bag lady" and a graveyard. This progression through life is meant to suggest that the scenes and characters are all "elements of the past" and that we all end in the same place. Furthermore, another decision I made was that the second shots of the characters, where they are looking directly into the camera, will flash black and white. This will reinforce the theme of "elements of the past".

Artefact 1 - Shoot 2

Today I filmed around the Arboretum and some more places around Nottingham. It was a shorter shoot than the one yesterday and I was able to get more than enough shots to now start a rough edit. The intended length of the artefact is 3 - 5 minutes. This amount of time will provide enough time to fit in enough of each section to make it feel like an actual journey, but will not be too long and loose the viewers interest. These two aspects are crucial in the effectiveness of the treatment. If the viewer does not get into the experience or gets bored, the therapeutic effect will have been lost.

Artefact 1 - Shoot 1

Today I went around Nottingham and got an extensive amount of footage to use for the first artefact. Several of these shots I took to use as time lapses. By taking 10 minute shots of people and cars passing by I can speed these shots up to use a couple seconds to simulate an overwhelming amount of people and activity, thus hopefully creating a minor feeling of anxiety. In addition to cars and people, I took many shots of buildings, in particular buildings under construction and large apartment blocks. These shots will add to the overstimulating feel of being in an urban environment.

Overall the shoot went well, however I didn't get to film at the Arboretum and some other locations in the city due to nightfall.

"Elements of the Past" Update & Location Stills

UPDATE: We have decided to add the narrative of Guiste walking around the city of Nottingham, noticing various characters. The music video will be a combination of these shots with images of him playing him bass silhouetted in a blacked out room, surrounded by smoke. This narrative we have chosen to move forward with is in compliance with Guiste's desire to give Nottingham exposure and also fits well with the song. With the name "Elements of the Past" the suggestion will be that the characters and scenes of urban life that Guiste sees don't change and that there's always a struggle.

Below are the location stills for where we will shoot some of the scenes for the music video:
