After completing the Research Document for this module last term, a book arrived that I had ordered to use as part of the Survey of Literature and Works section of the essay. Homeopathic Color and Sound Remedies by Ambika Wauters highlights some points about the nature of homeopathic medicine and how color and sound can be used to heal a wide range of ailments. She states that tinctures can be created by using colors and sounds. Water is placed in a cup or beaker before being exposed to a specific color or sound and ingested by the patient, with numerous cases of successfully treating the illness being referred to. Although the uses of color and light are different, I found some of the information useful to creating the first artefact of my Audiovisual Therapy study.
In the book, Wauters mentions several times how humans feel more comfortable in natural settings and that a lack of perceiving natural colors and sounds from living in an urban environment causes unease. She also states that "like cures like," a primary principle of the homeopathic practice. For instance, someone that has an upset stomach would receive a tincture that contains a substance that induces an upset stomach. The tincture is created by diluting the substance so that it is not harmful to the patient but is still potent enough to treat the ailment.
From these points, I would like to create a piece that would induce slight anxiety in the viewer and possibly recreate the experience of being in a natural setting.
