Artefact 4 - Conclusions

After conducting the experiment as part of Artefact 4, the following conclusions were made about Audiovisual Therapy:

1. The assumption, that a person watching a clip of their personal content would reach a higher level of relaxation when watching that clip than when viewing the "general" relaxing edit, was confirmed. However, the difference between the levels of relaxation between the main participant and the control participant were only slight, suggesting that personalised content is effective even when the content has no connection to the viewer.

2. Even though the personalised clip was only intended to be personal for the participant who chose the images, it also provided a more personal experience for the control participant, thus yeilding a stronger effect for both.

3. The inconsistent selection of still images in the personalised clip appears to have hindered the relaxing effect.

4. Not knowing the purpose of the clip caused confusion. This could be solved by providing more instruction.

5. For a therapeutic audiovisual clip to maximize its potential for calming a viewer, personalised content, preferably moving image material, should be used.

6. A higher level of entertainment (engagement) seems to increase the therapeutic effect.
